Hi, I’m Holly. My journey into the natural health realm began in 2003. After a diagnosis of mononucleosis and pneumonia, I was struggling with fatigue and depression even years later. I often slept 15 hours a day. My digestion was frequently upset and I had no energy or motivation. I took various western medications which only made me feel worse. I knew it was time for a change. Then I met my life partner, who introduced me to the world of eating whole foods. He had gone through a similar health crisis before, and recognized that I needed help. He taught me all about the healing power of organic and natural foods, and helped me to rid myself of my bad habits. I noticed my energy increasing and I started to have a more positive outlook on life.
During a trip to Hong Kong in 2004, I saw my first Chinese doctor. I was astounded at how he seemed to know me without even asking any questions. Just from taking my pulse and looking at my tongue, he could tell what my health issues were. I continued to see a different Chinese herbalist in California, and I kept continually feeling better. I was so interested in this miraculous medicine, I decided to enroll in school to learn it in 2006. I attended the Acupuncture and Integrative Medicine College in Berkeley. There I learned both Eastern and Western approaches to disease, diagnoses and treatments. Throughout my time there, I have learned so much about health and healing. I took Western classes in Anatomy, Pathology, basic sciences like Psychology, Biology, Chemistry, Physics. Eastern classes including acupuncture meridian and individual trigger points, clinic, herbal formulas and treatment techniques. I especially took an interest in Chinese Herbal formulas, which I found to be of great help to rebalance the body. I have still been seeing the same amazing herbalist for over 4 years, and am lucky to be constantly learning so much from her about this great medicine. She is a wonderful mentor and has over 20 years of experience with seeing patients.
Recently my curiosity extended more deeply into the realm of nutrition. After seeing patients in clinic at AIMC, I started to realize that diet can have a huge role in alleviating many of the symptoms that I would see. After all, you can only get an acupuncture treatment once an awhile, but you eat three or more times a day! So like Hippocrates says, “Let food be thy medicine”! So I researched and discovered Bauman College for Nutrition, which teaches a holistic approach to eating which I was very excited about. The rest is history. I feel I have found my true calling in life- along with my artistic career on the side, which I feel is fueled by the foundation I have built through the years of dedication to better my health.
I am a great believer in the healing capabilities of the human body. As one of my teachers in nutrition school said, “If you can breathe, you can heal.” I look forward to sharing my knowledge with who ever is willing to receive it. There is always hope!
